No other country in the world has such a high proportion of National Parks as Costa Rica and it ranks first on the Human Happiness Index! It was twice ranked first for environmental sustainability and has the highest ranking in Latin America on the Human Development Index. In 2009 it ranked first as the world’s greenest country and was the first country in the Americas to ban recreational hunting.

Itinerary

We arrive at the Hotel Bougainvillea – and experience their generous hospitality, just 10 minutes from the capital San Jose and surrounded by 10 lovely acres of tropical gardens. We tour San Jose with its culture, art and history, bright murals and painted buses.

Our first excursion is to Irazu Volcano N.P. and then the renowned Lankester Botanical Garden with its 3000 species of plants and conservation of tropical epiphytic plants (especially orchids). Next day we head to La Fortuna area to visit the Waterfall Gardens.
On the slopes of the volcano, our hotel provides hot springs for us (rich in mineral salts and ions), as well as wonderful rainforest canopy tours.

The La Paz Waterfall Gardens is a privately owned ecological attraction with five splendid waterfalls, rescued wildlife preserve with over 100 species of animals and environmental education program. It contains cloud forest, safe hiking trails, aviary, with numerous bird species, insect and butterfly observatories, hummingbird garden (26 species) orchid exhibits and much more!
We visit a small farm where we learn about ancient medicinal plants and the secrets of chocolate and its production.

We stay at a hotel set within 3,000 acres of dairy farming and the pristine Villa Blanca Cloudforest Reserve, where the flora and fauna is yours to explore in the mesmerizing world of mist, mountains and biodiversity
Other, similar treats are also in store for which you must read the detailed Itineraries.

THE THREE TOURS

The three Latin American tours are arranged consecutively so that you may choose one or more. Travel to these countries is expensive but major savings are achieved when combining tours. Where tour places are in demand, travellers taking two tours may be given priority over a person taking only one.

FLIGHTS

Our quoted tour costs do not cover your flights for arrival and departure.
For flights enabling you to go from one tour to the next, you must use our nominated travel agent.
For your overseas flights to and from Latin America we strongly recommend that you use our nominated agent. This provides maximum coordination, secure transfers to and from airports and sometimes significant savings.
Note: Our Latin American flights are not always the cheapest nor the quickest since safety is our first priority.
