James Hitchmough – His principal interest has been the ecology, design and management of attractive, sustainable and traditional herbaceous plantings. He is a world leader, with international experience, including restoration of Australian native grasslands. He is now part of a $1 billion Melbourne greening project.
Synopsis – Perceptions of Beauty in Designed Plantings and their Relationship with Human Wellbeing
James will discuss his research findings on perception of beauty in designed planting and the relationship between this and human wellbeing and biodiversity. James research using heuristic experience of practitioners, considers aspects of planting that generate notions of wellbeing in people and how does this match up (or not) with what the evidence says is good for biodiversity.
