2017: 11 – 29 October 2017 (19 days)
Tour of a Lifetime. Final Opportunity to Tour the Outstanding Private Gardens of South America!
Landscapes and gardens are an important theme – especially those of the Master – Roberto Burle Marx in Rio de Janeiro, plus various designers in Chile and Buenos Aires (Argentina). In Rio, we visit Burle Marx’s own Sitio (the ‘Garden of Wonders’), some magnificent, world class private gardens, and we stay near his famous Copacabana promenade – part of the Parque do Flamengo (Flamengo Park). We visit historic districts, the architecture of that other genius Oscar Niemeyer, and the iconic Christ the Redeemer Statue.
The 2017 tour is very special since it may very well prove to be the last tour to include a range of Juan Grimm gardens. After a decade of tours providing access for us to his stunning gardens, he has decided that he can no longer spare the time for future tours. This may also be the last Gardens Tour to be led by Warwick and Sue Forge to South America. There will be a keen emphasis upon the gardens of Juan Grimm in Chile, believed to be the leading garden and landscape designer in South America. He has been a key speaker at two ALC Conferences where he has literally provided stunning presentations full of Latin passion and a depth of meaning for his love of the natural world and its wonders.
With its mountains, volcanos, streams, lakes and diverse ecosystems, Chile is extraordinarily beautiful. We explore Pablo Neruda’s immortal verse, two of his houses, bohemian Bellavista, the charming seaside village of Zapallar, and an historic estancia vineyard with stunning arboretum, lake, chapel and pre-Colombian museum.
In Argentina, Buenos Aires (the ‘Paris of the South’) has great charm with its historic European architecture – cafes, antique markets, boulevards, gardens, Evita Peron Museum, Colon Opera House, porteño nostalgia and sensational tango.
These are personalised tours with leading designers and garden owners which include some of the really outstanding gardens and homes on the continent.
The tour is designed for Peru Tour travellers to transfer to this tour in Santiago, Chile.

Fortunately, while overseas tours have mostly become very expensive our tours to Latin America have remained stable.
Our tour is not long in Buenos Aires and we recommend you consider the option of staying on.
You may take a tour to Iguassu, the longest and arguably most spectacular waterfalls in the world; you may visit the charming and historic Colonia del Sacramento (across the River Plate) which was the Portuguese fort and stronghold formerly under the command of Arthur Phillip whilst serving in the Portuguese Navy. Colonia is now in Uruguay which was rated the most socially progressive country in Latin America and also, as the country having the ‘happiest people’! Certainly, it is a country of great charm and friendly people.
Or you may simply stay in Buenos Aires with its delightful architecture, day tours, (and more tango!) and just strolling about through historic precincts. After a busy tour introduction, this often proves to be a most satisfying, relaxing and enjoyable period. Everyone loves Buenos Aires!
There are good opportunities for shoppers, many items are inexpensive and flights provide very generous luggage allowances on return. We can arrange accommodation at our special rates in a very comfortable hotel which is well located in a fascinating and central Barrio (region).
We do recommend that you talk to us about the value of this special opportunity.
Comfort – Hotels
We have made huge efforts to seek out interesting and comfortable accommodation over the years. Our hotels are superior to the average European tour and they are all 4 to 5 star with some listed as amongst the finest on the continent. We seek hotels where possible which are not too large, have personality, are well located, a high level of comfort and which are culturally interesting where possible and with good cuisine.
The tour is led by experienced tour leaders Warwick and Sue Forge. They have led many tours to South America.
