2016: 16 – 30 May 2016 (15 days) – SOLD OUT!
2017: 14 – 28 May 2017 (15 days)
These tours have been inspired by Thomas Doxiadis (2015 Conference speaker) and Trisha Dixon (an experienced tour leader to Greece). It is being repeated in 2017 owing to quite exceptional demand.
The tour provides two weeks exploring the outstanding landscapes and gardens of landscape architect Thomas Doxiadis and those of members of the Mediterranean Garden Society; a number of islands including Hydra, Antiparos and Aegina; stunning Mediterranean gardens planted for their climate and archaeological sites. These mythic areas are imbued with luminous, searing and brilliant light – timeless landscapes and remarkable people.
To understand the region invites more than the mere visual, but involves an introduction to various strands of literature, mythology, poetry, cuisine and music. We follow in the footsteps of great writers drawn to the region for inspiration and reflection.
We access many private homes and gardens e.g. the late Patrick and Joan Leigh Fermor (Peloponnese), writers Charmian Clift, Miles Franklin and the award winning George Johnston’s home on Hydra among others.
The tour is led by experienced tour leader Trisha Dixon with assistance from Thomas Doxiadis and Warwick Forge.
$8,800 for twin and double share with single supplement available.
On completion of the main tour, travellers may wish to take up the option of an extension tour, involving a relaxing R and R spell at one or two of Trisha Dixon’s favourite islands.
This extra stay will be at a modest extra cost for those wishing to enjoy the lifestyle and attractions of these very special islands.
Following the 2017 tour, travellers may transfer to Paris and conveniently join the tour to Provence, Normandy and Paris. A discount of $300 is available to those attending both tours.
