Edmund Snodgrass

... is a fifth generation farmer who opened the first green roof nursery in the U.S.A. and has collaborated on green roof research for many years.  As our cities grow and climate change increases there is an ever greater need for sound sustainable design. Green roofs will reduce our environmental impact and perform valuable services such as storm water control and cooling.  Ed will illustrate some of these systems and show how they are being measured and changing the way cities are now thinking about infrastructure and gardening.

He will also explore the history of green roofs and their place in modern architecture and landscape architecture.  He will review many design options for green roofs citing case studies from a wide geographic range. We will see how many different design opportunities are becoming available allowing building owners to be gardeners and stewards simultaneously.

With the benefit of years of research at his nursery Emory Knoll Farms, Ed Snodgrass has developed a remarkable knowledge of hundreds of suitable, drought tolerant plants including their moisture needs, height characteristics and foliage and landscape  values.
