MOUNT MACDEDON GARDENS TOUR
Our pre-conference tour includes two of Australia’s finest hill-stations, a fine plantsman’s garden and the new strikingly designed Volcano at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. These tours are confined to delegates and always sell out so please book early to avoid disappointment.
Alton, Mt Macedon: this 10.4 hectare mountain retreat at the very peak of Mt Macedon, is surely the fi nest example of a C19th hill-station in Australia. Alton staff will guide us through this romantic and historic property, along its meandering terraced paths, magnifi cent trees and into the superb neo-Gothic ballroom.
Durroll, Mt Macedon:
A much loved, rarely opened hill-station (c.1879) is also
rich in history with outstanding cool
climate trees, ancient, fl oriferous rhododendrons,
picturesque lake and terraced
garden by noted designer Edna Walling.
Tugurium, Macedon:
Meet Stephen Ryan (of ABC’s Gardening Australia) at
his lovely property. An enchanting, well
designed garden with rare and exciting
plants, rich in humour, wit and experimentation.
Guilfoyle’s Volcano, RBG:
Head landscape architect Andrew Laidlaw introduces the new William Guilfoyle C19th ‘Volcano’ and
will explain the innovative water treatment
systems throughout the Gardens.
